Top secret recipe. Eggs and… Angel hair pasta?
June 24th, 2008This is a somewhat strange recipe, possibly unlike any other you have ever tasted. Do you like bacon? Pepper jack cheese? Eggs? Do you like… spaghetti?
Ingredients Needed:
1. Angel Hair Pasta
2. Olive Oil
3. Fresh black peppercorn and a pepper grinder
4. Salt (the good kind)
5. Garlic salt, course ground with parsley
6. Crushed red pepper
7. Italian seasonings such as marjoram, thyme, rosemary, savory, safe, oregano, and basil
8. Parmesan cheese
9. Sliced pepper jack cheese
10. Bacon bits
11. A single egg
Tools needed:
1. Medium sized sauce pan (for boiling the noodles)
2. Frying pan
3. Spatula (yeah. it would probably be a good idea to have a fork handy, too)
4. Measuring utensils
5. A strainer (for draining the noodles)
5. Oh yeah. And a stove.
Directions:
1. Take a sauce pan and put water in it. Set the burner to its highest setting to get things boiling.
2. Put a couple of dashes of salt and about a tablespoon of olive oil in the water (this keeps the noodles from tasting “soapy” and bland, and also helps keep them from sticking together.
3. Break the angel hair pasta in half using your hands and drop them into the boiling water. Be sure to stir regularly to keep them all from sticking together.
4. Taste the pasta at regular intervals until it is finished cooking. The goal is to have the perfect mix between hardness and mushiness. If it’s too hard, then it’s crunchy. If it’s too mushy, it ends up gooey and disgusting. Trial and error is your friend. You’ll figure it out.
5. Once the pasta is finished cooking, pour it all into the strainer. Sprinkle some garlic salt, crushed black pepper, crushed red pepper, parmesan cheese, and italian seasoning on the noodles. Use a fork (or your clean hands) to mix the noodles up and get the flavoring spread all around. The pepper will help reveal to you where the spices are mixed or aren’t.
6. Taste the noodles. The goal here is to make noodles that are literally tasty enough to eat entirely by themselves. Add more seasonings. Mix. Stir. Taste. Add more parmesan. Repeat as necessary.
7. Now that the noodles are done, the next step is to make the egg. Set the stove top to medium heat and splash a little bit (about a tablespoon) of olive oil on a frying pan. Wait for the pan to heat up a little bit, then spread bacon bits all over the surface of the pan. Crack an egg and drop the contents in the middle of your pan over the bacon bits.
8. While the egg is still sizzling sunny side up, take some of the spaghetti noodles and spread them evenly all over it. Let it cook for a little bit.
9. Use the spatula to break the yolk of the egg, which should then run together with the noodles.
10. Flip the egg and noodles over face-down and let it sizzle together for just few seconds. Don’t let it cook too long, though! You still want it to be a little runny.
11. Flip the egg and noodles back over and lay a big, sandwich-sided slice of pepper jack cheese on top of the whole concoction and let it melt for a little bit (just enough to make the cheese sticky so the bacon bits stick to it, which is the next step).
12. Sprinkle some more bacon bits across everything and then use your spatula to flip it all over again. Let it cook for a little bit more.
13. Once you see the pepper jack cheese start to sizzle, use the spatula to move it all over to your plate.
14. Grab a fork and enjoy.
